A Tale of the Relentless Pursuit of Enhancement

There is a lot of discussion about what exactly is the definition of the term " Computer Literacy ” and a lot of people visit this web site, via the various search engines, in quest of clarification.   Computer Literacy - The Quest for Literacy in IT Skills

When in early 1988 we first opened our doors for business we wanted a name for our London based IT training business that would clearly indicate to prospective clients what we were all about, hence the choice of the trading name “Computer Literacy”.
Our quest was at the time, and still is some 18 years later, to improve the performance of client organisations through empowering their employees with the ability and knowledge
to comfortably utilise computers and associated software applications.

In essence what we seek to do is establish what level of computer literacy the client has, identify what levels of computer literacy are required within the business and then, in partnership with the client, develop a plan to ensure that ability levels are nurtured and developed to satisfy the current and perceived future requirements of the organisation - thereby ensuring that the client is able to get the most out of the IT at their fingertips.

So when attempting to define the term “Computer Literacy” we would say that it is a “state of being” where ability in the use of computers and associated software is equal to or greater than the perceived needs of the user / client.

With the availability of new and improved computer technology and functionality, organization are always looking for cheaper, faster and more efficient ways of operating. Combined with the general wider acceptance of the role of computers in day to day life, our further reliance on the computer seems unavoidable. As such perceived IT skill requirements will continue to rise and the quest to obtain a state of “Computer Literacy” once achieved will inevitably quickly be lost.

The need for Computer Literacy skills, while different in nature now, are as apparent today as when we first started out. If you are looking for a Computer Literacy course there are various courses listed on this web site which can greatly assist in the pursuit of and maintainability of “Computer Literacy”.

Feel free to browse and if you would like to discuss further how we might be able to support your organisation in it’s own quest, please do not hesitate to contact us.
